I think we've upped our "morbidly obese" numbers, quite a bit, and we're probably getting heavier, earlier, due to a more sedentary modern lifestyle,

True.

But - today, there are whole SCHOOLS full of fat, chubby little frickers.

Also true, and terrifying to me.

Changing the culture begins in early childhood. Educational programs, better instruction of diet in schools and from parents, better education around the importance of personal health and fitness, better foods in cafeterias, more physical fitness required in schools, etc.

There are hints of this happening, but we still have a long way to go.

This is a very good answer. Upvoted.

And even if everything I posted is wrong and we are screwed like you say, what would you suggest we do about this? Every time this thread comes up its "frick fat people I hate them all" with zero solutions.

I gave my solutions. They are extremely drastic and patriarchal, but people can't be trusted apparently. So, we either do what the British do and have doctors elect to treat someone for major surgery based on their ability to handle the surgery and make the most use of it or we start rationing people's food. Or both. Otherwise, we're going to go the way of Greece.

We also have to pay for people who smoke, destroy their livers by drinking too much and people who drive too fast.

And why does this mean that obesity in America is any less of an issue? And we should probably start having doctors do similar things for addicts as described above. You're a smoker of 30 years and need a new pair of lungs? How bout no? How bout I give these lungs to a kid who's dying of second hand smoke because of you? How about that? You need a new liver because you drank this one to death? Nah. I'll give it to this other guy.

there really does seem to be a disproportionate amount of hatred towards at fat people.

How so? Cigarette smokers make up less of the population (18%) than obese people (according to this study), and yet smokers can't sit inside a restaurant and smoke, can't stand within 20 feet of many office buildings/public buildings, are taxed out the arse to pay for their habit, and are generally viewed with contempt by the majority of America.

Less than 10% of the population has an Alcohol Abuse Disorder and most alcoholics are viewed with open contempt except in college.

On the other hand, we have a FAT MOVEMENT wherein fat people are banding together to claim shite like "thin privilege" and to show that massively overweight women are pretty too and can be models. Just in the last week I've seen 4 articles on this type of shite on Yahoo's headlines. As my wife says, "Social ostracization is a massively underutilized tool." Being massively overweight should not be acceptable. It should not be glorified. We no longer glorify smokers. We've never glorified alcoholics (except at frat parties). I don't understand why all the sudden we're having people glorify how fat they are.

I blame Kate Upton.

DICTATORSHIPS FOR EVERYONE!!!

ETA: I wouldn't actually advocate what I've suggested above, but I'm at the point of throwing my hands up and saying "frick it."
