anyone else remember the guy who use to sell hot tamales from a bicycle from downtown Monroe on Desiard St.?

His son (I believe) actually opened up a restaurant called "The Tamale Cart" a couple of years ago. I don't think it panned out, and believe it closed down...but I ate there, and the tamales were very good...

the Superette! I don't think there's too many of us North Monroe people in this thread or else there would have been more T&C, Superette, and Gene Cox mentions. And of course the purple and white truck and the knack for Jack Hayes to catch on fire every few years it seemed.

We always used to stop by the EZ Mart on 165 near Northeast to get one of their frozen adult beverages.

I had many a friend who lived in Town and Country. Good times there. Glad that this thread brought some old timers out of the woodwork.

eta--anybody looking to IRL last night would have been disapointed as I did not, in fact, grace Enoch's with my presence. My td.com t-shirt didn't get washed in time. I apologe if I ruined anyone's night.

Somehow, Some way Carl, I think they will get over it...assuming anybody actually went up there anyway. I did see that Beth Patterson is playing at Enoch's Friday night...and I always liked listening to her at Sean Kelly's pub in New Orleans (though she doesn't play there anymore for some reason)....if you like the irish folksy thing, you may want to check it out.

Perhaps, but I'm sure it will be hard.

I doubt they did. We actually stopped by and poked our heads in, but it was slammed. We weren't drinnking last night, just eating, so we moseyed on over to a less crowded restaurant.

Yeah, I've heard her a few times up there. She's good. I'll probably be there Friday. My friend's boyfriend is having a birthday party, and that's where they like to hang out.

Buying swamp water from the Bottle Shop. Going to see Percy Sledge at the Red Dog Ballroom. How about cruisin' for babes at the A&W across from NLU. Kokomo's, ToTo's, Burger Chef, mud hoggin' in Forsythe Park on Sundays before the cops ran us off.

frick Yeah - at the age of 15. Only in Louisiana could you go through a drive thru at 15 in your moms station wagon and get a pitcher of alcohol to go.

Tiki bowl at the Tonga Island . . . damn if that doesn't bring back memories.

The Deja Vu, Bogie's Place, Sixth Street, and Enoch's on Sixth Street were the main joints back in the mid 80's.

As for the local food . . . anyone remember Clyde's Catfish? Big ol' Clyde used to sit in a recliner by the cash register smoking a cigar and watching TV, but would speak to everyone that came to his place.

The catfish place I remember is the Catfish Cabin on Louisville. Is that place still around?

When Farmerville played Carroll in the Optomists Toy Bowl in the early 70's L. James came to the Ville and filmed some of our practice one day. We all thought we had made it.
