But again on this, in a lot of cases, you're telling someone to pick a cheap house or a promising career. You won't find the same jobs in a smaller city.
Seems to me the answer to affording something halfway decent would be to sacrifice early and build a down payment.
The median housing price in DFW isn't that bad, I have a daughter who has a nice place in Fort Worth and it's not costing her a fortune. It's certainly not as expensive as it is here.

No, I'm telling them to pick a cheap house outside of a large city or live in the large city and rent or find roommates. They don't get both.
Too many people want the affordable 2600 sqft house within a five minute drive of the local bar district. Sure, they exist. But your arse isn't affording one for years to come. That's life.

bullshite. Plenty of examples have already been given. In fact there are a ton of them on most major "best places to live in the US" articles specifically because they provide good job opportunity with affordable housing.
They're just not the "cool" place to live, or don't have the right weather, etc. etc.

Peoples idea of quality of life usually changes from their 20's as they get on toward their 40's. The list of things important to a 26 year old usually are gone by the time they reach 40

what a disgusting group of people. fr
Most of us actively participating in this thread aren't boomers.

Like I said, I get it. You want to live the cool urban lifestyle. That's fine. Just understand what you have to give up in order to do so. Owning a home at a reasonable price is one of them. If you want a home with a reasonable price, you'll need to look elsewhere.
Life isn't fair.

Cow town is cheaper than Dallas because fewer people want to live there. It's also an hour at least with traffic.

Ah so changing someone's career.

Available jobs doesn't mean the same job or industry.

could care less about owning a home in 2019 dude. i like renting and flexibility that comes with it. so do many others.
families are a thing of boomer past anyways
and so is buying a home in some desolate arse town in BFE Alabama and thinking you "made it" because of doing so.

Ya. We are currently living in a time where career mobility is at an all time high. Not to mention if you work in a field that allows work from home. Something that would be unthinkable even 25 years ago.

And there's not just one city with available jobs and affordable housing.

Not the same city but very similar in most repects.
My point is every generation gets fricked over eventually. Several times usually.
Why get in a twist over it?

I just want to make sure I have this right. The answer to finding affordable housing is to find a new job in flyover country.

Duuuuude. Having a family is soooooo yesterday. Could you be any more of a pretentious millenial prick poster child?

Because your lifestyle is the only 'correct' lifestyle.
Jesus christ you're full of yourself.

Who's getting in a twist? It's a discussion.
I swear, people here have forgotten how to discuss things without needing one party to be a melter or on the PB, a lib.

First, you live in flyover country if you live in Dallas.
Second, ya...if you want an affordable house to own you're going to have to look outside large urban population centers. Or deal with a commute.
Those are the facts. Bitching about it doesn't change those facts.
The US is increasing in population and has been. It's only going to get worse.

I'm not a boomer. And I don't have kids.

Ok. Let's discuss why housing increased between my father's time and my time.
Why do you think so?
