No, you said unless you want to live in some small southern town with no professional jobs,
Most of the geographic USA has affordable housing

What amount of money do you consider middle class?
Household income of 60k-110k
If you can't find a job making at least 15/hr, then you have zero marketable skills as a human being and deserve what you get
Ruthless, maybe, but DO BETTER!!
Work harder, learn a trade, work an extra job, have a strong family nucleus... TRY!!

You can buy a house in metro Atlanta or Houston for 170k. Might not be the house you've always dreamed of but it wouldn't be 80 miles from civilization either

Point is...getting a decent house in a desirable area for 170k is not the national norm at all. The national norm is higher than that.
Sure there may be exceptions...but for the most part...170k is not getting you a decent single family home in desirable areas in most parts of the U.S.

You'll be in the fricking ghetto.

Yep. My former coworker is selling his 350k home here (which is a starter home locally) and buying a home near Houston for 300k that looks like a mansion.
Still unreal what he can buy there

There are tons of houses in Pearland under 200k

Posted on 4/11/19 at 9:45 pm to RogerTheShrubber
He said $170k and you're talking about $300k+. And you're talking about mcmansions too.

Exactly 28 under $170k like you said previously.
I just checked Dallas under $170k. Oak Cliff and fair park have the VAST majority of houses.

frick no. I make it a point to never be comfortable with the position I'm in. Don't want to become a fat, lazy frick who sits in a cubicle watching the clock from 8-5 every day. Never settle for not succeeding
You really are immature.
You can enjoy the present (be balling) and still push yourself and your situation at the same time.
Happy heart attack.
(you will probably outgrow this mentality, though. Not appreciating the moment is common with most who are young. And thanks to darwin, most are biologically inclined to learn and outgrow it as they mature).

Dr Horton subdivisions. They are popular in Texas and have become popular here in the last 15 years. They really are shitty built houses. We used to live in one. There wasn't a 90 degree angle in most of them

Yep, I was the same way.

I have a friend who bought a new townhouse in Houston under $300k and it's a new development in the middle of the ghetto.

Go look in a place like Des Moines. You can find good schools, job market, low crime and a decent house for 150k
Posted on 4/11/19 at 9:53 pm to RogerTheShrubber
So now we've officially moved to $200k even though the whole premise was $170k?
Posted on 4/11/19 at 9:54 pm to fallguy_1978
Des Moines is a great place to live.

My mom is from there. I think a lot of those nice Midwestern cities are the next boomtowns.
