How do you figure? They sell arse weed.

It doesn't matter. The cost of a pound of weed doubles the further away it gets from the border. A pound of shitty Mex brick that sells for $500 in Phoenix will sell for $2000 in NY. It's cheap for them to make and has a huge markup.

It's the same with coke but the margins are even better.

Yeah, but their cost per unit is way cheaper than harder drugs meaning they can afford to have more seized and still be profitable.

They also basically have monospony, well at least the south American cartels do, so the purchasing of it is dirt cheap and they have no worry trafficking it to Mexico. Then every other player is just fighting over getting it to the various end users. So there is a few buyers and a few groups running logistics, for cocaine there is no other competition. they don't have that luxory with meth, heroin or weed (especially with the new legal domestic production)

I think it takes a masssive amount of cocaine for anyone on that side to blink an eye. One shipment would be like a Walmart lossing power for a few hours.

Right, and that's the cartels I'm speaking of. The Mexican cartels that are forced to diversify their retail goods. They don't have the luxury of being single item dealers.

Not necessarily. The guys sending it across have paid a decent wholesale price. They certainly can afford some seizures but nowhere near the levels of weed. I'm not saying weed is their most profitable product per unit, but it's definitely the product that pays the light bill every month. You take that away, and you're gonna be hurting. Although, Mexican meth production is now starting to rise substantially. They're sending both refined and semi-refined products into the states these days.

I guess that there is so much greasing of the hands of the politicians, cops, judges, etc. that no one will take the country back from the thugs.
Well, it's not only corruption. The Mexican cartels have no problem killing police officials, judges, or politicians.

So, they basically have two choices. Take the money and look the other way or face assassination.

Check out Puerto Aventuras. VRBO and AirBnB have some great condos. Gated Community. Not much of a feel of Mexican culture though.

I live in Mexico City for about 5 mths and had no trouble. The only issue I had was when we went to Acapulco and got shaken down by some "cops" for $40. Other than that every time I have gone has been a great experience.

That be shakedown rate in Mexico. About 20 years ago a friend and I took a surfing trip down to Todos Santos (just north of Cabo) and we got separated. Federales threatened to take me to jail if I didn't pay up- they shook me down for $40. There was no mention of what they were going to arrest me for. Outside of the resort/touristy areas Mexico can be a scary place.
