What is the self defense/protection argument in that kind of setting? If he thinks he will need to mow down a group of people all at once in the airport he should avoid airports.

Carry a handgun if you want to protect yourself in public, not an AR-15. Preferably don't carry one because I don't trust my safety with your judgment... but if you must then have the common sense to lower your profile with an appropriate weapon that is less obvious.

NRA gun nuts and Anti-gun nuts are a fricking joke. It's one thing to own a gun, but this is some one trying to get noticed.

NO ONE needs an armed guard to the Airport. get the frick on, with his safety bullshite response.

Open carry usually just paints a target on yourself for criminals or mass shooters. Who do you think they'll take out first? This guy would likely not even see it coming if one got the first shot off at him. Concealing and carrying is the way to go, although I'm sure this guy was just foolishly trying to make a statement.
