Really? It isn't painfully obvious?

He actually made the 1st guy invisible for real and then only pretends to do so on the victim. It's pretty simple stuff.

When he first holds the blanket up the guy takes off. That’s why he takes so long to walk it over to the chair. The only person who doesn’t need to see the guy is the guy in the chair, everyone else is in on the joke.

I thought that might be the case but it doesn't look like his shadow moves on the ground. My only explanation is everyone is in on it and there was some good editing.
