never put kitchen knives in the dishwasher. Handwash, dry and put back in the block.

so if I am speaking to a close relative, and hold up one of the knives, and with thoughtfulness and respect, explain why I don't want the knives in the dishwasher and the next week one goes missing off the block and I am told it's in the dishwasher.

Just some unschooling to learn themselves because you can't possibly be right. Like explaining to my ex that you can't ride around on E. It allows sediments that may be in the tank to clog the pickup and will eventually cause premature failure of the sending unit. Also if an emergency comes up you want to be able to get where you need to go without stopping for fuel. She never listened. Not when she ran out because "all the lights were red". Not when a new sending unit and tank clean cost $1200 on a just out of warranty vehicle. Not when I had to bring a gas can to the hospital when she had to take mini AS to the ER and it wouldn't start...I guarantee if I listen the next time she picks up mini AS when she cranks it the low fuel chime will go off. All that to say MPt, I feel your pain and don't understand why some members of the species have to fail in their own right to quantify the advice of others who are merely trying to save them from failure. It's frustrating af, and the perpetrators are 100% dumbasses.
