My question was not the per Bale price for small square, but rather the conversion to large round. Up here a large round will be between 1500 and 2000 pounds. If a small square is between 50 and 60 lbs at 8 bucks not sure you'd find anybody willing to sell the equivalent of 35 bales for five times the price.

Quality isn’t as good on round bales. The horses don’t like it as much. Also, you never get full use bc it gets spread everywhere and rained on.

It’s more labor intensive and more uses more string for small bales this they cost more per pound.

Are your horses picky about what they eat?

Glad I was able to contribute. It may boost my chances for potw.

How do you think they hold them together?

It's not. Certain types of grass are considered better, cleaner hay, and are typically used for square bales, and the rougher hay for round, because they can hide a lot more imperfections in the round bales.
also round bales are more popular with cattlemen, because cows can eat wet hay and it will kill horses.
cows can eat damn near anything

Wire usually now. which helps with the moving.
I HATE stacking hay, but I've done my fair share of it.

My show horse is a garbage disposal. Not picky at all. If he doesn’t touch the hay, it’s SERIOUSLY bad hay.
Kenneth has only had super high quality hay, so I’m not sure. I can’t get him to eat treats, though.

I understand both of those points, and I understand there is some economy of scale in going big but I don't think it's a factor of 30.

As Georgia said, cow hay is cheaper than horse hay
