Ask the doctor if he owns any of the hardware he is about to put in you! Some make more money on the hardware than the professional fee!

By the way, if the doctor who is recommending the fusion also prescribed the steroid cream, I would be wary. Sounds quackish. Have you have a medrol dosepak or comparable doses of oral prednisone?
