re: LSU needs to go to a 3.0 GPA for admission policy

Schools vary so much, you don’t really benefit by cutting it off at 3.0. A better formula would incorporate standardized tests scores. For instance, many episcopal and catholic high grads who wouldn’t quite make that cutoff have gone on to be successful engineers, chemists, etc. No point turning them away from LSU in favor of a 3.0 from a terrible school.

Didn't they do that, already?
LSU Planning changes to admissions - 2018

Freshmen requirements for admission into LSU include a 3.0 grade-point average and a composite score of 22 on the ACT.
This year's incoming cohort is the best performing class in LSU history in terms of avg ACT score and avg GPA
Lots of smoke regarding the "holistic" admissions policy but this year's class appears to be above par comparatively speaking

They at least need to increase gpa and act score to get tops!

I’d say anywhere between 2.88 and 3.50 would be favorable

Footnote: What's really interesting that I did not realize (until looking over the study) is that the UL system received just over 50% of all TOPS funds during the 2006-2016 study period whereas the LSU system received only around 1/3. My guess why we don't hear about the student housing boom in Lafy and Monroe is because that ~50% is diluted between the two while the ~33% going to "the LSU system" is probably something like 90% going to the main campus here in Baton Rouge.
Don't forget the other 7 schools in the UL system

A 22, which is pretty low for a flagship.
There are people who score 22 without a GPA of 3.0?

All college admissions need to be based on ACT/SAT scores only. It's the only thing that (theoretically) can't be manipulated.
