Ha. Aren't there passages in the bible that promote slavery?

Old testament. You need to know more about the bible and Christians perhaps.

Is that not part of the Bible?

ETA: I've learned all I need to know about the Bible. Went to Catholic school my entire life. It's all ridiculous nonsense.

Fine with me but you don't know enough about it to discuss. The new covenant means nothing to you I'm sure.

Well enlighten me. How do you explain away slavery being promoted in the Bible?

#1 Slavery was voluntary and part of business. It was nothing like we think of it in the U.S.
#2 The book you know so much about is separated into 2 sections, old and new testaments. Christians Follow the new testament where there are differences. There is no slavery acceptable in the new testament. If there is see #1.

Sorry to disappoint you Jethro, but I'll stick around longer than this bill will.

Thanks. I feel enlightened already.

ETA: New Testament didn't really seem to have a problem with it either. Ephesians 6:5 - Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

Fair enough. Now look into what a "slave" was in those days and consider what the times were like. A slave was usually a business arrangement where the slave was treated like family. Trading labor for whatever the need is similar to what we do legally. Lets just say I could cut my neighbor's grass and he would fix my outboard. In there case it was subsistence and there were long work days + no quick way to get back home. Also there was the year of jubilee. 7 years apart all the slaves were set free. The debt was paid ... even if the deal had only been struck one year earlier that "slave" was freed.

No one was stolen from their village and whisked off to some other part of the nation to be worked to death.

Jesus never condemned it. Must not have been that bad. Like going to stay at your aunt and uncle's house for 7 years.

Apparently redbone thinks this statement is worth arguing. There is no legitimate response to this than laughing hysterically.

What kind of arrangement did the Jews have with the Egyptians? Not that they really were...but that's a separate issue.

The entire point of this line of questioning is to show that this statement...

Redbone: That would be correct.
is fricking ridiculous.

If the Egyptians treated the Jews like family, why did God tell Moses to free them all?

Look man, I have studied this and I'm being honest. I don't need sarcasm. People working for something besides the almighty dollar is extremely old. I've been patient while trying to explain to you what you should already know. You knew enough to pass judgement on the bible and Christian religion but are constantly asking questions. Perhaps you should stop bustin my balls and revisit your judgmental attitude towards all of this.

You don't judge non-believers? Should I link your statements about Obama and godless leaders ruining countries?
