now the little cuddle dog is laid up next to a sweet and moderately overweight but still attractive teacher of special ed kids.

My last dog was a border collie but had zero herding instinct. He was smart, easy, and pretty lazy.

That sounds like a good house pet. Most Collies or Shepherds are too much for a majority of dog owners to handle. I know I'd have a helluva if a time in my current situation.
Mine has been very easy to raise. Only issues I've had are because of the stigma of pitbulls. That, and the teething stage was a bitch.
