They actually aren't shooting radar when they do that. It's called vascar. They are basically calculating your speed by measuring the time it took to travel the distance between two marked areas or fixed objects.

It kinda irritates me. Speeding should be enforced uniformly, and yet officers vary wildly on how they enforce it.

shite, I've gotten a ticket for going 7 over while passing someone.
I've seen Williamson County on this show let some older guy off with a warning when he was going 90+ mph.
