Not going into specifics, but there was a fairly high profile murder case in EBR parish in recent history where the person arrested ended up getting convicted. Had a conversation with a non-police individual working the case prior to the trial that said there were some in their office and the prosecutor's office that questioned if the police actually arrested the right person. Supposedly there was a witness to the murder that claimed the individual arrested wasn't the person they saw commit the murder. Turned out this was true, as it was brought up in trial. Guy was still convicted. I'm not saying this person was innocent and neither was the person I had the conversation with, I have no idea, just that this is why defense lawyers are needed.
