True, though what I should have said was that physicists have never believed the Standard Model to be complete. Every physicist has understood the Standard Model to be an incomplete theory.

My flawed analogy was an attempt to point out that all sciences may not be as disciplined as physics.

Part of my work is to provide support for some of the people doing data analysis on LHC data. I love taking a look at the webcams when I get a chance.

That sounds awesome. Even though we have made great progress in understanding the world around us, it still pails in comparison to what we don't know. I just wish I could understand the math that support these "sci-fi" sounding theories (not discrediting them, btw.)
