"It is a (removed school) tradition to show appreciation to our teachers and auxiliary staff with a cash gift twice a year - during the holidays and at the end of the school year. It seems like cash is the preferred way to go since most teachers would appreciate that more and can choose to use it as they please."

I think it was a mother, she emailed the whole class saying they always give cash and there's an envelope at the front desk for it.
