It's a different world than when I was a teenager 20 years ago

Social media, constant bullying at school and on the Internet. Lack of discipline enforced at school along with participation trophies all cause children to excessively seek validation

So parents need to tell and explain children why it's ok to lose, how to defend themselves, encourage them to seek hobbies and sports as an outlet. Reward for great behavior but not for a skill they have mastered

Also some days you don't need to say much, just listen. A good psychologist will use Carl Rogers approach when asking questions. For instance avoid questions that require a one or two word response, these are called open questions

Hope everything will be ok

It gets frustrating as a parent, and yes we were getting angry at her as well. She even had a boyfriend at one time that was in the same situation she was (worst case senerio).
We met with his parents & thought everything was good but it only lasted a couple of days or a week.
Smart phones are ruining kids as well, it’s an addiction to them. I’ve read Med journal articals that actually talk about the led screen on a phone causing depression, or constantly waiting for a reply or a line or a thumbs up on social media & how this type of acceptance releases seratonin. Rejection is hard for them as well. And of course the hormone levels of a 15 yr old. Times are different from when we were kids, that’s why it’s hard for us parents to understand.

I dealt with it as a teen, it led me down a dark road of drugs and really dangerous behavior, seek professional help, the fact that I am alive today is because somebody cared enough to help.

I lost my brother in law last year at the age of 22. Take the signs seriously and be grateful they are showing signs before it's too late.

I don't but it seems clear to me that this is a common problem that affects all of us who call ourselves human beings.

Lost my brother in law last year. He seemed fine and was set to retire at a pretty young age. It still doesn’t seem real.
