Honestly what would the world lose if we leveled that whole area of the globe???

We may have to rebuild a few oil platforms, but outside of that... nothing.

General consensus regarding these folks is that because they are unreasonable, religious zealots, nothing can be done to change their behavior such that the videoing of the the beheading of folks could be stopped. That may be true. I'm for trying a different strategy, and I'm basing my strategy on the defeat of the Japanese in World War II.

Historians will generally agree that the Japanese soldiers fighting in World War II were as loyal, fanatical, and committed to their cause as any group of soldiers seen to that point in history. It's a matter of fact, however, that the dropping of two atomic bombs brought enough pain and suffering on their cohorts, such that those commanding the Japanese - likely the most fanatical of the lot - saw that continuing to fight would only bring the total destruction of their nation, race, and culture.

I know I'm going to get slammed for this, but I'll say it anyway. I'd like to see the POTUS address the world on this matter of the beheadings, and say this....

"In light of the recent beheadings/killings, ISIS has now left us little choice in how to go about fighting this tactic. Since ISIS seems to think that it's ok to bring pain and death to innocents, we'll borrow a page from their book. If another death occurs, gets videoed for the world to see, or any other kind of statement killing gets perpetrated, our retaliation will be to drop a bomb, roughly the equivalent to the one's dropped on Japan, straight onto Mecca in the middle of whatever Hajj pilgrimage draws the biggest crowds. We'll wait until at least 1,000,000 are gathered, and then, poof, they'll all be vaporized. You are now warned. You know what will happen. I'm apologizing to our friends, the Saudi Arabians, for having to drop a nuclear bomb on their soil, but shite man, they've left us no choice. I speak for me in this matter, there will be no questions, I'm excited about the prospects of my damn strong army's ability to pull this off, and have a great day."

I don't know. Perhaps. Obama has blamed National Intelligence Director Gen. James Clapper for the failure to foresee the rise of ISIS. However, it's pretty clear a lot of people fricked up. The President does not strike me as the most engaged person in the world.

Ha! Obama was advised as to what would happen if the US prematurely withdrew all military forces. We knew what was happening in Syria, and we took our troops out of the region anyway.

This is our fault, again.

Yeah, generally the world looks upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a tragic aberration, not a norm to be followed. We managed to get through the Cold War, with a nuclear armed opponent, without nuking Moscow. Millions would have died, as they would now, as well as countless historical treasures. But I guess it's fitting that we nuke the region that birthed the three Abrahamic faiths.

While I agree with you, it'll never happen. Obama should have the CIA put every man they have on ISIS. frick Russia and China. We should be flying dozens of jets and drones over Syria and Iraq every day, systematically executing every one of their leaders we can get a sliver of intelligence on. Just drop a world of Hellfires on them.

Geopolitically speaking, Russia and China are much larger threats to America than ISIS.

Plus, Russia has a vested interest in the Syrian government.........we need to tread carefully there.

Bin Laden cited our intervention, not our passivity, as his reason d'être - specifically, in his 1996 fatwa, he said our support for Israel, permanent bases in Saudi Arabia, and our invasion of Iraq spurred him on. Not being "pussies."

So as it turns out the hope and change from Bush's wars will turn into Obama's wars. Shocking. Called this shite back in 2007 when that idiot was beating his drum about withdrawing troops, knew it would cause a vacuum for these psychos to go apeshit based on how we destroyed their infrastructure and didn't do much to rebuild it. Easy for them to recruit with anti-west rhetoric that lots of people will sign up for since we impacted millions of lives in the region in the last 15 years.

It's kill or be killed, and Obummer is too worried about the November elections to do anything serious to combat this. It's just a festering problem that isn't going away with his "air strikes"/bombings.
