My wife does something like this for our son and grandsons. Every year since my 30 year old son was born, he has gotten a hess truck for Christmas. Just a side gift. Nothing major. My 2 grandsons now also get them.
My son has them in the box. They have collectible value. One day he will love them because his mom gave them to him. He has long ago lost the kid interest in them, but its a little tradition.

I think suddenly. I knew she was dying when I deployed and I thought about it constantly and it ate me alive.
I agree with assisted suicide being human with terminal illness and for people old and mature enough to make that decision

Nothing really odd. She was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer 1.5 years ago. No telling when she will leave us. I save everything with her handwriting on it now. Little notes...cards...anything. Makes me sad to type this.
I'll put you both in my prayers. stay strong for her brother

Got damn I didn't mean this to become a downer thread, but I am the strong one in the family that faces the hard reality and it's nice to let it out somewhere. My father is the man I measure myself against and I always come up lacking. I try to tell him how I feel but can't get through it and don't want to break down in front of him.
