Was thinking about this yesterday. Is the relationship between new technology and science fiction (movies, books, etc.) a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Considering things like hoverboards, jet packs, video calling, humanoid robots, etc. would these things have eventually been invented on their own, or did people look at stuff in science fiction which sparked the idea?

No, I haven't been smoking drugs.

Yes. Without a doubt. Sci-Fi comes up with ideas, then nerds try to make them reality.

Well in many cases, Sci fi is just an evolution.of what already is.

They're symbiotic.
