Is the link between science fiction and technology a self-fulfilling prophecy

Was thinking about this yesterday. Is the relationship between new technology and science fiction (movies, books, etc.) a self-fulfilling prophecy?
Considering things like hoverboards, jet packs, video calling, humanoid robots, etc. would these things have eventually been invented on their own, or did people look at stuff in science fiction which sparked the idea?

Yes. Without a doubt. Sci-Fi comes up with ideas, then nerds try to make them reality.
