I know there has beeen tons of discussion on red light camera tickets but I have not seen any about the legality of photographic toll roads.

Went to Indianapolis a month ago for the weekend and noticed the toll signs just north of tne Kentjcky line in southern Indiana on I 65. Didnt go through any toll booths so didnt think anything else about it until i recieved a letter from riverlink with a black and white photo of our car in the mail wanting $4.00 each way for using the interstate highway.

Is this even legal? What do we pay gas taxes for? I understand paying a toll if a private company builds a road and i want to use it but this was on I 65.

That's all we have in Dallas. Speeds things up without the change booths immensely.

Houston needs to catch on.

Austin also has them. Surprised they aren't in Houston yet.

Yes they are legal. There are always signs before tolls. You have every right to exit or turn around and find an alternate route. The toll tunnels here in Virginia are privately owned. They can do whatever the frick they want.

Some public roads are funded through tolls.

I feel that they are. They are their to pay for the road. Red light and speed cameras are their to raise revenue to line the police's pocket.
