so far you're lucky. because the disc in your neck are degenerating, and what you hear is bone spurs grinding against each other. you have the beginning of cervical spondylosis. Sometime it causes pain and stiffness in the neck, sometimes you don't even know you have it until something happens that causes the pinching of a nerve. When that happens you won't hesitate to see a specialist. I suggest the Neuromedical Center.

Classic case of grinding neck bone syndrome.
