Is it insensitive to wish people a Happy Memorial Day?

If so, explain.
On a day of remembrance, can we not be thankful for the people who have fought and died for our freedom, and happily celebrate with our family and friends the fact that we are free due to brave American men and women?
My grandfather fought as a Marine in the Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal) in WWII. He witnessed some of the fiercest fighting imaginable in the Pacific Theatre.
Yet, every year on Memorial Day weekend my grandfather gathered the family together to BBQ, play wiffle ball, croquet, and end the weekend with a bonfire next to the creek on the farm.
Don't get me wrong, he took a long moment to thank the people who died for our freedom during the prayer before the meal.
He was the quintessential American soldier, yet even he celebrated and seemed happy on Memorial Day.

No, it isn't insensitive. Your grandfather was taking advantage of the liberties that he and his buddies fought so valiantly for.

What do the Admins have to do with Memorial Day?

I don't have a problem with wishing anyone a Happy Memorial Day. I don't like when people don't know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day or Military Appreciation Day.
Memorial Day= KIA
Veterans Day= All those serving or served during wartime
Military Appreciation Day=all those serving
Memorial Day= KIA
Veterans Day= All those serving or served during wartime
Military Appreciation Day=all those serving

The wartime qualifier is a bit much, but so are you.

Awesome story but..
let's not be disrespectful to the man now.

I don't see why it would be, but the true meaning of the day has been kinda skewed. Not intentionally or disrespectfully I might add.

Those who have died I am sure wouldn't want it any other way.

I can't think of a better way to spend the day!!!

So those who served but didn't die in combat but are either alive now or died after the war shouldn't be remembered, right?

Reading comprehension apparently not your cup of tea.
In the scenario you described in your post, those men and women are considered veterans, and are remembered and honored on "Veterans Day."

I've never heard much said about Memorial Day around where I grew up- other than it's Memorial Day weekend. No parades, special functions, etc.
Veterans' day is though. There are parades, fly-overs...
Always wondered how one was so missed.
