Why would this be the case in downtown Houston?

Ya it's fine. Lots of stuff downtown and you're right next to midtown. Right next to the rail on main.

Its funny/pathetic seeing the beggers at intersections along richmond ave, westheimer, kirby, etc.

They post up on the sidewalk, drinkin beer till the lights turn red and the show starts.

Pick up the walking cane, and walk to the cars with a bucket.

Downtown houston is pretty safe overall.

But there are two things that need to be relocated soon.

1. There is a greyhound bus station on main street in midtown. Always a mess around there with the people coming in and out of that place. There is a mcdonalds and a gas station near the Greyhound that attracts a lot of criminals. No joke. I have a buddy that is in HPD and he says that the area around greyhound is their number one concern in midtown. With the expected influx of immigrants from south texas things could get worse before they get better.

2. There is also a Star of Hope homeless center across the interstate from Minute Maid. A good friend works for the mayors office. There are a lot of developers wanting to build on the northeast side of downtown but all are hesitant because of the center. there is no easy alternative for the center in a city that is rapidly rebuilding around the downtown area. its becoming a thorn in the city's side.

The homeless/criminals will cycle through the greyhound stop and the star of hope. Which goes right through downtown. They will make enough money to go get some mcdonalds and then go back to the homeless center. that is why it seems that there are ALOT of homeless in downtown houston.

The beggars in Katy are galling. There ain't a homeless center within 25 miles and I don't see them anywhere at night. My MIL saw one drive away in a decent car one evening. Apparently there's enough stupid people in Katy who keep giving money.

What's crazy when I was a young young teen I ran away and ended up at the gray hound station in Houston. Stayed a night on the streets in that area and decided after a day it was the to get back to La

There's lots of bums in downtown Houston. Just really disgusting bastards that love being disgusting. But I don't hear of a lot of violence.

Yea, it is pretty strange. Luckily we have the tunnels

I was going to rent a loft in that old Nestle place, but this was right across the street.

Only place in Houston I have felt relatively unsafe was around Minute Maid Park, but even so didn't see anything in particular...Just sent my spidey sense tingling to have my head on a swivel. Between the woodlands and Houston downtown only place ever really felt unsafe were there and tomball exit off 45.

Eta: also the area around hobby airport but that's not downtown and most airport areas are shitty

I prefer Hobby over Bush but the area is horrible.

I remember stopping for gas on 45 near Hobby at night. I was on fumes. I tatted up messican(tear drop under his right eye), probably just out of jail approached me looking for money.

I was polite. Said Im sorry but I have nothing to offer. wished him luck. nothing happend.

still stands as one of the few times I have feared something was about to happen to me. I have been lucky.

I had an internship in Houston for a couple of months. We rented an apartment in San Jacinto and Main without seeing the area. Block away from the rail and mile from the office in downtown so good location. Except for there was a homeless shelter and I think a food bank right next door. There were literally hundreds of homeless lined up outside at times. But we never had any problems with them

Reliant is a 10-15 minute ride on the rail
