Pretty sure she was talking about some of the male posters.
Yup. One in particular that I won’t name. But gotta love someone taking that post and diagnosing me with a mental illness when I’m 1) not even talking about that poster and 2) I’m talking about a shitty guy that happens to post here that lied about stuff and now wants to play victim

The only time I ever see you post is to sky-scream about a nurse post. And an ambiguous one at that.
You’re ate all the way the frick up. I feel kind of sorry for you actually.

The other issues as well is that insurances want the client to be at least 18 when you diagnose for BPD.
We haven't had any issues with our insurance covering the treatment even though they're under the age of 18 but...

The recent DSM has changed the criteria to under 18 but insurances are still fighting against it.
The DSM has been updated but there are a lot of therapists that will refuse to acknowledge that someone under the age of 18 can have this disorder. Very thankful that we (my wife and I) were able to find someone trained in DBT to help.
This book has been very informative although very very depressing at times.

Consider yourself lucky. I diagnosed a 16 year old last year (very clear it was BPD) and they denied the coverage despite multiple hospitalizations for suicidal attempts backing it up. Some are still following pre-update guidelines.
I think some old school therapists are hesitant to put that kind of label on a client, especially when they’re going through puberty which can cause some significant distress depending on hormonal swings and may not be BPD but manifestations of others issues or possible complex trauma.
It sucks all the way around.

What coverage did they deny? So far they've covered therapy and each of the hospitalizations.

Covered in-patient hospitalizations up to a week because they were based on attempts but wouldn’t cover PHP (partial hospitalization) or IOP (Intensive outpatient) to transition out. Then denied therapy coverage itself based on a BPD diagnosis alone.

That's just wrong, the sooner that the treatment can begin for the person the better possibility for their life outcome. I am going to assume with BPD that they engaged in incredibly risky behaviors and the therapy helps them with that issue.
