Can only be decided by a beach volleyball match.

Possibly, but that scene is based off of real world issues the Navy had with the Pratt & Whitney engine that was formerly used in the F-14. It had a true tendency to flameout in high G maneuvers which would typically send the Tomcat into an unrecoverable flat spin, just as in the movie. Navy eventually swapped them out to a GE engine better suited for a true fighter.

They worked superbly though for the Air Force in the F-111 series FWIW.

Exactly. Maverick was cleared and returned to duty, but there'll always be people who say he was irresponsible and is to blame for LT. Nick Bradshaw death.

While not sure about the Iceman/Slider "cockpit buddies" thing, in real life neither Iceman nor Mav was hitting that.

That award goes to "Wolfman" who was doing the behind the scenes smashing on a then-totally-hot Kelly McGillis.

So ALWAYS be on the lookout for Jody

Maverick was cool til we actually saw what tom cruise was like in really life... hard to get past a short, oprah winfrey couch jumping, scientologist.

While undoubtedly weird as frick, Tom Cruise is pretty unanimously thought of as one of the nicest, most down-to-Earth guys in Hollywood. He also does some pretty incredible stunts himself.

I have learned to just ignore the Scientology thing because he seems like an otherwise great person.

Plus, he puts out some bangers. His movies are almost all entertaining at worst and frickin' sweet at best. The Mummy is the exception lately, but that wasn't his fault.

It's actually kinda funny how Viper was the legend and offered to fly with Maverick, and Mav is all "nah fam, I'm good".

Not to mention he owns and flies his own P-51 mustang
" Kiss Me Kate".
Kinda hard not to like a guy that can have anything but spends his $$ on something like that.

Disliking Tom Cruise is a vogue thing to say but he’s pretty much the best movie star out there. Puts out absolute bangers, stays out of politics and you could rewatch 90% of his movies on any given day
