I thought tech companies were concerned about global warming and our oceans heating up

Microsoft employs experimental undersea data center in search for COVID-19 Vaccine
I guess they are only concerned when it isn't effect their profits. I agree this a genius idea but what I don't understand is how you can say you are so worried about global warming and our oceans temperatures rising, then sink a hot data center deep into the ocean.

Do you have a clue the energy savings of storing those data centers on the ocean floor versus running giant HVAC systems to keep them cool?

What if their power source is typically wind, solar, or another type of renewable?

Honestly it seems pretty damn brilliant. Have to deal with the corrosion and electrical standpoints, but using the ocean as a giant heat sync seems brilliant.
And it’s not like anything toxic could be released into the ocean if they fail (unless the media is allowed to store things on them)

Permitting has always been the barrier to this technique. Data centers near larger rivers could just have the cooling loops extend out into the rivers. Similar to Waterford 3.
