That's exactly what happened. I give him credit for building a faithful base that was big enough to give him the rating that made him a lot of money, but having the loyal listeners he did gave him a lot of power and that power was valuable to those who wanted to push an agenda. And there were people who hung onto every word he said. I used to work with this dumbass who would go to lunch with the other dumbass that worked in a different department. They would go pick up their lunch, eat in the truck and listen to Rush Limbaugh every day. And he was the type who would just jump into a conversation and in almost every conversation he was in he would say "just like Rush said the other day....". People used to cringe when he said it. There were several people who had no idea who "Rush" was. I remember one day when the dude brought up Rush again,, When he left this other dude was like "What department does this Rush dude he always talks about work in because I hate him and don't even know him". But if Rush would have said "We need to teach the democrats a lesson by killing ourselves" that dude would have done it. You would think at some point people would realize how full of shite people like him are, but its the exact opposite. He wasn't any different than someone like Joel Olsteen.

It legitimately still astounds me how little you have to say for being so long winded

He was also right that politics is theater for ugly, wealthy people.
