House was built in 86. 4 main breakers, one is main, one ac, one heat, one wired direct to my oven. The inside panel is fine.

Breakers are in good shape, but the metal box itself is rusted from being exposed for 25+ years. The hinge is completely gone and rust seems to be the main thing keeping the lid attached at all. If just the casing needs to be replaced that would be fine with me.

I'll take a few pics and bump the thread tonight.

DON"T just stop there. Based on your explanation of the question you are a prime target for electrocution.

Get a buddy to help Put your pride aside.

If you have the money pay someone

Your question indicates you have little knowledge about electricity

No I have a good working knowledge of electricity. I was mainly asking about some type of inverter that would be cheap. But I'll pigtail it. I won't get electrocuted because I'm not a dumbass.

Wiring a light is pretty simple. I see no reason not to just put it up there. If you are concerned about the fixture working why aren't you getting a new fixture? It is not worth the hassle go to home depot and buy a new fixture and put it up.

It's a funny shaped light that I have to take totally apart. The fixture goes up high in a bathroom so I want to test it low. The fixture can't be found locally and since I have 2 I need to get this one working.

Ok, the last sentence in my post was meant to be a question. My point being Old fixtures are rarely worth messing with. You could also find another matching set. It sounds like you got it under control.

the circuit doesn't care if it's AC or DC.

You can test an incandescent bulb with 12VDC. You'll get a dim glow, not full brightness.
