I don’t understand interviews during a circus event

Look, if my loved one was killed or fighting for their lives, I sure as frick would not be on TV getting interviewed by a reporter.
This happens every time with an event like this.

It's always amazed me people will be smiling on TV talking about their child dying in a school shooting.
If it were me, I'd sure as hell not grant a damned interview.
