Spinoff Hurricane Laura thread.

So, Laura could make landfall in LA on Wednesday. We all know the drill: no school.

BUT WAIT! If teachers and students are attending virtual classes, will they (should they) still have class on Wednesday?

Sorry OT teachers, but I say yes to virtual school.

Depends on if you have power or not.

And since most of my kids' teachers are going into the schools and doing virtual classes from their empty classrooms, I'd say it depends on if the schools have electricity too.

This thread is dumb. If school is held virtually there still has to be a teacher. You want teachers to focus on other people’s’ kids during a hurricane instead of their own?

I literally just asked my principal husband this. He didn’t find it amusing.

It’s not meant to be amusing. It’s a legit question.

If he gets annoyed by this, then taking ambiguity out of the situation by having in person classes full time should be on the table.

Public school principals have no say in that in most districts

They can’t make the decision unilaterally but they can send it up the flagpole that people want it.

A large number of school districts seem to be deciding they can ignore what the parents want.

He definitely wants it and has made his opinion known to the higher ups. Multiple times. With statistics and research to back it up. We’ll see.

He was more annoyed at me. I was making light of the situation at a poor time. But I’m at the point where it’s delirious humor. Like, you just thought virtual learning was bad, let’s throw in a hurricane to see what happens. Kinda like the gamekeeper in the Hunger Games, adding twists and turns for “entertainment”.

Your secondary husband doesn't get to weigh in?
