A good friend of mine was his personal assistant back in the late 80's. That is accurate. He came to New Orleans in the late 90's, don't remember the exact year. He invited her and her husband to visit him at The Ponchartrain Hotel and I got invited to tag along.

Went up to his room and the mirror in the bedroom was on the table in his suite with a HUGE mound of coke on it. Open bar, joints being passed non-stop and the coke was flying off the mirror. Hung out for like 2 hours and then he got crazy paranoid and kicked us out. My frind just said, "That's Hunter being Hunter". She was not at all surprised he killed himself.
