Yes - my children used to plead with me to call and give money when that starving children commercial came on - I told them we’d give things locally (which we did) and we always pick an angel or two from the tree in the back of church
About two years ago, we saw a family broken down asking for money - I gave them a few bucks and one of my sons asked if we should go home and get his piggy bank - I said no
A few weeks later we saw the same family, then there were in the parking lot of our church begging, and actually I saw them last week (their kids are bigger now) - my same son was a little disgusted but he didn’t say anything

I've been doing the Angel tree at work for a few years but it is all online this year. My son and younger daughter both got 3 each to do this year. My son and I went online to target earlier and got the items for pickup tomorrow. He got to choose them with a little help from me for boys his age, 7. My wife and daughter will do the same. I also took them to the store over the weekend to each pick out a Toys for Tots toy to donate at their after school care facility. I don't want them to feel bad for everything that I can provide for them, but they need to understand how fortunate they are in life. I can count on one finger with a few fingers left over the amount of times I received Christmas presents in my childhood. My kids will never no that pain thankfully. But in my parents defense, we always had good home cooked food, maybe not always what I wanted, but it was there to eat.

Damn, that’s a good story. I don’t say that like it’s a lie, but I mean it as a compliment. That’s a good ending to horrible and possible tragic situation.
Good advice given to that young lady. Glad she follows up on it. frick that dude.

There is always a beggar near the CFA that I go to regularly. I am pretty sure he is an addict of some kind but his sign says “ need money for food”. So I often get him a #1 from CFA and give it to him. I can see the disappointment in his eyes.

Yep 100% true. Really sucks but you can’t trust anyone these days.
