This tipping shite has gotten out of hand. You're exactly right you don't have to tip everybody. Like the "servers" at Golden Corral who harass you to refill your drink 50 times they make minimum wage and don't have to be tipped.

As far as movers go I recently had to pay en extortionate rate something like $350 an hour to move about a roomful of shite 1500 miles away. I damn sure wasn't tipping on top of that exorbitant rate. Tip-top service was to be expected when I paid that.

I mean, this is factually incorrect. I tip people for providing services when they provide good service all the time. Sorry you're a cheap bastard.

While I disagree with the way he said it, I thought the guy had a point.

My thinking has always been that you tip for services provided that are ancillary to the services you’re actually paying for. For example:

-You go to a restaurant for food, you tip the person who brings it out to you
-You pay for a hotel room, you tip the person who cleans it
-You pay to get into a club, you tip the person who parks your car.

With movers, you’re paying them to move, then you’re tipping them to move. You’re paying and tipping for the same service. I’ve never understood that.

In any event, last move we used two men and a truck. 5 bedrooms for an in town move. I tipped them each $10 because my wife said we should. Basically lunch money.

But after reading this thread, it sounds like I was on the low end so clearly I have no clue how any of this works.

I usually tip $20 per mover, plus offer to buy their lunch.
