Crew cut (thanks, Dad), then the side part.
Let it grow down to my shoulders my first year out of high school while I was working pipelines.
Since April, 1980, short and combed straight back.
It works for me.

It has been around at least 100 years and at least it is unique.
Not many hairstyles can offer that.
