Most of the time I have zero beers in a day. But sometimes I will have 10 or 20. I'm either drinking or I am not. Having 3-4 beers daily doesn't appeal to me at all.
This.

Been knocking back a 30 rack of Natty Ice & a bottle of Kentucky Windage every two days since I've been laid off from the oil patch.

Depends on how much regret you live with and the amount of disdain you have for your family. Everyone is unique so there's no one answer.

Beer is good for your constitution. Very healthy habit. That and red wine.

quote:Per the CDC: LINK
Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths and 2.5 million years of potential life lost (YPLL) each year in the United States from 2006 – 2010, shortening the lives of those who died by an average of 30 years. Further, excessive drinking was responsible for 1 in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20-64 years. The economic costs of excessive alcohol consumption in 2006 were estimated at $223.5 billion, or $1.90 a drink.
>2 drinks/day for men or >1 drink/day for women is considered excessive alcohol use. Binge drinking (5+ drinks on one occasion for men, 4+ drinks on one occasion for women) is also considered excessive.

32 yo and up to about 4 per day. No longer drink to get drunk. Drink to drink. Starting to take its toll. Need to cut back and change some habits, you know, like going to the gym and shite.

I had to cut back to no drinking beer during the week because it fricks up my sleep schedule. I tend to not do a per day count but rather a per hour count. Keep it at one per hour on weekends and I'm fine. Your body processes a standard 5% abv beer in 2 hours. Generally drink from 4pm till 11-2pm without issue.

Read something that alcohol makes you go to sleep faster but your sleep isn't as good (restless).

That's true for me. I used to 3-4 beers an evening and cars by 10 but would wake up all night. I went to sleep faster but was tired from broken sleep. Cut the beer out and slept much better.

I am posting this after drinking 10 beers (regular budweiser) and I am starting to feel quite sleepy!

I'd like to see an experiment done.
Group 1 drinks 12 beers per day but eats healthy and exercises.
Group 2 does not drink or drinks like 1 beer every other day. Group 2 eats McDonald's or similar food at least once per day. Minimal exercise.
Examine liver and kidney health at the end of the study period.
My money is on the beer drinkers being way better off.

But will 4 beers a day kill somebody if they do it for 20+ years?
It won't kill them, but they have an increased all-cause mortality as opposed to people who drink less than them. And more drinking increases all-cause mortality.
quote:
I've heard that somebody has to drink at least 6 per day over the course of 20 years to develop cirrhosis of liver.
I've seen cirrhotics in their 30s. Higher volume drinking doesn't require 20 years. I really doubt 6 a day would cause cirrhosis. It does have a lot of other negative effects (cognitive, blood pressure, vascular disease, pancreatic issues...6/day is too much to be considered "healthy" if it's literally every day)
quote:
I don't have a problem with somebody drinking as much as they want whenever they want as long as they don't drink and drive or do anything else stupid.
I don't have a problem with it. It's a pretty preventable cause of a lot of spent healthcare dollars, though. Most of which get passed off to taxpayers and insurance-buyers.

Genetics plays a big part in this.
