I live just outside Detroit. The downtown is changing a lot. They’re knocking down buildings/ houses fast. Its changing really fast. Its really not that bad. The problem is when you get outside the big city and get into the Detroit neighborhoods. It’s still pretty gangster up to 8 mile.

What people need to realize is that Detroit's suburbs are as nice as any other big city suburbs. The problem with New Orleans is that Jefferson Parish and St. Tammany burbs are going to hell. There's no core industry in New Orleans to sustain the metro region. Detroit still has the North American auto industry and New Orleans lost the oil and gas industry 50 years ago to Houston.
What's pathetic is that being at the mouth of the Mississippi and the delta should make New Orleans one of the US's biggest cities and yet it is smaller and yuckier than Minneapolis Saint Paul at the northern end. St. Louis and Memphis are dumps, but New Orleans is a cesspool with the exception of tourism and the remnants of the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries.
