I’m very proud of my Southern accent and can’t understand why anyone would want to lose theirs.
You should be proud of it. It represents where you are from and that should be special to anyone.
I felt a lot different about it in the late 90s than I do now. Also, it was a personal challenge for me to lose the southern accent and obtain the ability to speak with a more generic one, and I was able to accomplish that so that was a big win for me.

People on here don’t like to hear that because they have a vendetta against the culture of Northeastern and West Coast people (forget the politics)
I don’t know a single person that cares how the rest of the country views us southerners. There’s a lot less care given than what you assume. We’re just tired of those people moving down here

Former Raider coach and owner Al Davis was born and raised in Brooklyn and picked-up a Southern drawl while coaching at The Citadel. Very unusual combination of those two accents.

Accent is nearly dead among the younger generation in the suburbs.
I live in Shreveport and every kid I know has a southern accent. When I go out in the rural areas it’s even stronger. Outside of yankees moving here, it’s gonna stay strong in the future just as it is now. Media isn’t going to change your accent when your family and friends all still have it

Forgot to mention that I’m constantly asked by locals where I’m from only to tell them I’m from the same place they are haha
