Location services doesn't make sense to me since you usually have to consent to it being used for any purpose.

yeah about that...

When I used to attend AA meetings a lot, my Facebook would start to suggest people from those meetings for me to friend. Trust me, I wasn’t trying to add or chat with any of those people

Your phone or Facebook is constantly tracking you and giving that information out

Wait a minute, so now you are telling us that we will appear on the people's list we looked at?

I'd be interest to see how much facial recognition on all photos posted to it and online that they access that connect people back and forth.

I'm fairly certain apps like Bumble & Tinder give some of this information to facebook. I've noticed that those apps now have a facial recognition feature that gives you a blue check when it's confirmed that this is an actual person and not a bot.

I click on the "people you may know" tab every now and again and will have people show up with zero mutual friends who I met obscurely out at a bar a long time ago or something. Never exchanged numbers or anything. It's really freaky.

That means that FB probably has access to your location app and it recognized that y'all were in the same area.

That's one of many ways that Facebook has access to who you are connecting with.

It’s magic. And Big Brother. It’s like a cross between Stalin and David Copperfield.

why anyone is on facebook is beyond my comprehension.
now that so many access it thru a smartphone, do people really not realize that they are collecting information on where you are, what you do, and who you do it with?

and most people just dont care?

If you go to a location frequently enough and leave your phone with a location setting on, you'll probably start to receive suggestions of other accounts that you aren't already friends with that frequent those places too.

Yup. I got home from the bar after the McGregor-Mayweather fight and FB had suggested I become friends with our server. We had no mutual friends and I don't go there a lot but I guess because we were in the same spot for so many hours they thought we should be friends.

Was curious about what an iPhone says about locations services and when you look at the privacy settings in the phone it says this

"Location services uses GPS, Bluetooth, and Crowd-sourced Wi Fi hotspots and cell tower locations to determine your approximate location."

so essentially any app you have set to "Always" allowing to use location services could be tracking your location through these various means, or apps that you allow to use location services while using will track it at all times essentially.
