Ridiculing him anonymously on the Internet (where all parties are kept anonymous) is not really "public"
The harm done to his image in real life is essentially zero. So quit being a whiny baby about it and enjoy the fun.
I agree that the OP shouldn't wind this guy up intentionally for the sake of posting the fallout here, but he has the right to carry on with the woman that Michael is pining for.
