Well, Steve Wilhite - the dude who created "gifs" pronounces it "jiff"... So that's what I'll go with.

He invented "graphics interchange format", gif is simply an acronym from those words. He doesn't get to change the way that letters are pronounced.

I can only imagine the high circles you must run in to feel the need to say Jif instead of gif like us normal folk.

All I know is I have always pronounced gif phonetically as in gift without the t. If it was supposed to be pronounced like the morans pronounce it, it would be spelled Jif, as in the peanut butter.
