There has been plenty of idiocy from those in power the last 2-3 years over this issue but the only idiocy here is you not understanding extremely basic medical science.

And let’s also be honest, none of this is being forced on them. They can have a home birth if they want to. If mom and/or baby die that’s the risk you take for doing your own thing. Hospitals aren’t and shouldn’t be democracies. You use their facility and services you follow their rules

You are focused on Covid, but it really doesn't matter whether it is Covid or the flu or RSV. The situation would be the same. 10 years is a long time to wait for a baby. A few weeks is not.

I am certain that a NICU nurse would be happy to send pictures and probably a little video of the baby to the parents. They did that when my nephew was there at under 2 lbs since very few were allowed in the NICU. That was 7 years ago and pre-Covid.

This isn't even your child. I hope you are not spewing your ignorance to the parents and upsetting them even more. It would be good of you to be supportive and point out the positives for them rather than getting them in your uproar.

I think too many think “the customer is always right” mentality applies to a hospital. And while hospitals do what they can to make patients satisfied….they also absolutely do not have to give into every demand and whim of patients and visitors.

Link me once where I said the parents were going, or were asking, to step into the NICU. Just once. Good luck.

What do you think “seeing” in the NICU means? NICUs don’t always have a bunch of big windows where you can watch kids.

Also, does the NICU not have a streaming service where they can see their kid on video? The one my cousin was at here in Louisville (Norton’s) had one where she could watch the baby on video when she wasn’t at the hospital. Especially since hers was in for almost 4 months.

Speaking as a mom of a 6 week old preemie who ended up in the hospital when he was just 6 weeks old (basically on his due date) with RSV, this isn't a bad idea. Ever see a baby struggle to breath and there is NOTHING they can do for them? You don't want to be around a new born or a preemie with a cold. It literally can kill them. I don't know why you are so upset about this. I hate most of the covid shite and have been very verbal about how stupid it is, but this is not. They are trying to protect a baby with NO immune system from getting sick. NICU babies have to work hard as it is once they are born and you are ok with making it even more difficult with them getting strong and getting home.

I also don’t think OP realizes babies lungs are still developing all the way up until 36 weeks. It’s why premies typically have respiratory issues.

Whether you believe COVID is more than a cold or not, it’s still a highly communicable respiratory disease. And even adults with good immune systems can have complications if they have respiratory issues. Now imagine a baby that has no immunity and likely under developed lungs.
