German MG 34. They also modeled the Stormtrooper blasters after British Sterling sub-machine guns.

Darth's right - that picture is a 34. A 42 has flat sides and large vents on each side. The 34 has a rounded barrel shroud and it ported in more of a Swiss cheese pattern.
