It was actually a Prussian medal that the German Empire took over once the Empire was founded.

Well, he could have earned it during that time. I didn't know.
I used to have The Blue Max, parts 1 and 2 on VHS. That was such an awesome movie.

I'm not Googling anything other than to post pictures for the questions I pose. That's the point of the game, to try and answer the questions without having to Google them. If you're using Google, you're cheating.

It signifies that the wearer is imperial. The orb represents the entire world as being Christ's domain.

ETA: I'm goingto go out on a limb and guess it's a goat or sheep. Which if that's the case it's the Order of the Golden Fleece. I've seen examples of this medal but none with that massive necklace thing.
