OK. This ship is a museum now. Name her and what makes her unique (she wasn't a USCG ship then).

That's the Taney. She served from Pearl Harbor to Vietnam. But I thought she was always a Coast Guard boat?

You may be correct, sir. Let me recheck my sources...

Ok, you asked.
Designation and what makes that model very unique amongst aircraft please.

Don't know designation but are those jet engines under the props?
Only turbine powered tail dragger?

You got me on that one. Is it one of the prototype Junkers bombers?

That's a Junkers JU-86P high altitude recon aircraft. I started to order a model of one of these for my son not long ago.

Hard to tell from that picture. I think it's a prototype destroyer or perhaps ground attack aircraft. It's engines remind me of the ones from a Donier DO-17 but I know that's not it. Past that I can't really tell.

Off on that one. Let me see if I can get a better pic.
Here is a pic of a model of the same type of plane.

I'm 99% sure I built that model as a kid.
ETA: Either that one or an He 219 - but that was almost 40 years ago.

Ah, it looks a lot like the Henschel HS129 but the high wings says that's not it. I've seen this thing before. Focke Wulf made it but it never went into production if I remember right.

I think it was a low production model - Ta 152 or Ta 154 - the Mosquito, I think they called it.
ETA: Ta 152 was a single engine, Ta 154 is the night fighter pictured above.

I always loved the German night fighters, for whatever reason. The JU 88 and BF 110 did most of the work, but I liked the lighter production ones as well.
Hitler would do ANYTHING to avoid building a strategic bomber -

Here's something a bit different....
Why is this aircraft painted in this manner?

I have no idea
I can tell you that's a B-17. Maybe some type of special missions aircraft. Flew for NASA or NOAA or something like that?

I built this kit back before my son was born...
... he broke it when he was a toddler. I'd like to find another one to replace it with.

That B-17 is painted as such because it was a formation aircraft. They would use brightly colored war weary planes to form on, and it would return to base after the formation was ready.

Nope... But not a bad guess.
