One of my favorite series of pictures is Ali and the Beatles.

Will have to check that story out. I would like to find a good model of that plane but yet have to.
He tells the story in the movie Apollo 13

What is this plane and what was its mission (as in designed to do)?
Posted on 7/21/14 at 1:38 pm to Spaceman Spiff
F-105
I believe that version was the Wild Weasel. It's mission was to hunt down and kill enemy SAM sites. Took balls of steel to do it.
Oh. Designed to do. Wasn't it an interceptor designed to shoot nuclear tipped air-to-air missiles at Russian bomber fleets?

I ain't kidding. I wouldn't piss on her if she were on fire. Never forget what that traitor bitch did...

She does regret that those pictures have hurt some people's feelings - particularly when those hurt feelings have resulted in her pocketbook having been a little lighter at times.
Seriously, if she hadn't been Hank Fonda's kid - we would have strung her up at the first opportunity, right?

I think it was originally intended to actually deliver nukes to Russian targets.

Why she's not spent the last 40 or so years rotting in the ground following her execution for treason, I have no idea.

The G model was designed soley as a Wild Weasel. The original was designed to deliver nukes (hence the bomb bay). However, and fortunately, it never carried out that role. It was an excellent attack/light bomber that could carry a hell of a load and fly very fast down low. Heck of a plane.

This. It could carry more bomb tonnage than a B-17, so it became the go-to attack plane at the beginning of the Vietnam War.
I think he's thinking of the F-102 and F-106 Darts that carried nuclear-tipped missiles with which to intercept Soviet bombers.

She damn sure should be. As you said, I wouldn't piss on her if she were on fire or even help her off of rail road tracks if a train were coming. She can and should rot in hell.

Originally, it was designed as a low-level, high speed attack bomber capable of delivering a nuke - which is why it was fitted with a bomb bay. However, the bomb bay was used as fuel storage during Vietnam.

I believe the F-102 still holds the record for being the largest single engine jet aircraft in history. The damn thing was huge.

Yeah, the 105 - I was talking about GT's comment about the nuclear interceptor - those were the F-102 and F-106 - one of those numbers (particularly the 106) might have been confusing him.

The F-105 was the largest single engine, single seat combat aircraft in history.
The 102 and 106 were large planes as well, particularly for their role, but not the size of the Thud.

I think it was only a couple of feet longer and around the same span as the F-105, but the 105 had like 20K more pounds on it (empty).
