I have Cox and they offer MTV Live and regular MTV as the only MTV HD channels.
I had never known about MTV Live until trying to find Prince videos yesterday on MTV.

They sure were. And then reality T.V. happened. All videos got pushed to MTV 2, which was not on basic cable. Then all music went away and I quit caring. MTV has been a complete joke for a long time. I guess they don't care either considering all the bungling that happens. They get paid whether we watch or not.
