generally not well known or understood by the general public.
But worse than that. The politicization of the university systems of the West have made objective review of Speer's book difficult today. Current scholarship focuses on attacking Speer as one who should have been executed. Part and parcel of attacking Speer personally has placed objective review of his book outside of the purview of current university scholarship. In other words, if you were to bring up Speer to your university professor, you would not get any objective discussion. What you'd get is more personal attacks on Speer -- you see there's not real search for truth in university scholarship today -- all has been totally politicized such that there is no longer any desire to learn something new from Speer because politically, he's been rendered fit to be ignored.
That's why a close consideration of his book has never occurred within the confines of any university study of today.
As I said before, it's a book for people that already have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the military situation on all fronts throughout the war, because Speer's activities must be placed in that context. Most people who try to read the book are casually interested in WW2 stuff and don't have enough background knowledge, so the book doesn't provide insight as much as it can, and it's probably not an interesting read for them.

As a kid, I ate my cereal without milk. I remember once staying at a friend's house overnight. In the morning, she wouldn't let me have honey nut Cheerios because I wouldn't take milk and it was unhealthy. She gave me smores pop tart.
Even at 5-6, I knew she was an absolute moron.
