Saw a little bit of old fashioned America yesterday in Greenville, Texas. Nice 4th of July parade - good sized crowd, lots of flags everywhere. Drove Dad in a WWII jeep (Dad is a USMC vet of WWII, Korea and Vietnam). Young Marine Sgt. in full dress walked down the line of vehicles in the parade to say hello to Dad.

After the Parade, they had a big get together at the large Methodist Church at the end of the parade route where patriotic songs were sung.

I get home - litter strewn all over the sidewalk in front of the office (and all down the street).

I know it isn't particularly newsworthy other than everything in NW Louisiana centers around fireworks, or nothing.

What rank did your dad retire with?

That's a hell of a career and legacy to be in WW 2, Korea, and Vietnam.

I wish I had taken some as we went down Park Street, but hard to drive the old jeep at the parade pace and take photos at the same time.

Lots of kids with wagons with flags, lots of flag waving as the parade went by.

Col.

He spent 3 years in WWII, two tours of Korea and two tours in Vietnam. Flew mainly PB4Y-1 (Marine version of the B-24) in the Pacific - at age 18.

Pretty cool, especially recognition for your Dad.

Small towns like this capture what was routine in days past. Much more community focused than we generally are today.

Disappointing about the trash.
